About This Site

Why I built this generator

One popular drag name generator was my starting point. I read through its code to see how it worked. It offered ten categories, but it showed only one name per click. Several of its lists repeated the same name, and visitors could not filter by letter.

It also leaned on celebrity puns. That gets a quick laugh, but it ties a stage name to someone else's fame. I wanted names that belong to the performer who picks them.

What the generator does

I gave it seven styles and a Mix option that draws from all of them. Together they can produce about 2,500 different names. Here is what sets it apart.

• It shows up to 12 names per click instead of one.
• It filters by starting letter, which helps if you already know your initial.
• It takes your own word, so a favorite snack or flower can become a first name.
• It lets you copy a name or save it to a shortlist in your browser.

How I make the names

Each style has its own list of first names and surnames. I pick words by sound first, because a stage name has to work when a host announces it over loud music. The funny style also holds 50 ready-made puns that I selected and checked one by one.

When you press Generate, your browser picks words at random, joins them and drops any repeats. Nothing you type leaves your device.

How I check my work

Before I publish a change, I run every style through a batch of letter and own-word combinations. A script looks for blank results, repeated names and broken text. My Editorial Policy explains the full process, including what I leave out on purpose.

What I can't promise

I can't tell you whether a name is already taken. A quick search on social media and video sites takes a few minutes, and it can save you a rebrand later. The Disclaimer covers this in more detail.

Say hello

I read every message myself. Send me a bug, a style you want to see or a name that made you laugh. You can use the contact page, or go straight to the drag queen name generator.
